Beware the "giant sandworm"
Ever climbed on a giant sand worm or clambered along a mutated caterpillar? Such is the fun to be had at Hidden World Playground, tucked away in Brisbane's outer northern suburbs.
The playground has been designed around the fantasy theme that this spot marks the entrance to a mysterious underground sinkhole, which was discovered in 1988 by a group of Year 9 students on a school excursion. The CSIRO and University of Queensland sent teams in and discovered rare mega-creatures were living in the caverns, such as the giant sand worm and a now extinct society of very clever mice.
Hidden World has plenty of picnic tables, free BBQs, clean toilets, ample parking and is surrounded by grassy space for everyone to run wild. While the location is not particularly central, if your kids are into slides, swings and bridges, then I'd say this little gem is definitely worth the drive.
